Infrastructure refers to the facilities or services necessary for an economy and society to function which is why Aylesbury Vale Advantage (AVA) are determining the infrastructural needs to underpin the new communities and the increase in population which is being planned for Aylesbury Vale as a result of the growth agenda. AVA and its partners have been undertaking these studies for the last three years. Infrastructure needs for Aylesbury Vale includes resources like cemeteries, community centres, green spaces and the wider environment, leisure centres, heritage, public transport, allotments, water supply, refuse collection, youth services, emergency services……
The funding for such works is achieved via largely four funding mechanisms; various Government funds i.e. The Growth Area Fund or the Community Infrastructure Fund, Section 106 funding agreements and investment by the Local or County Authority e.g. Aylesbury Vale District Council’s investment in the new theatre.
AVA’s Infrastructure Programme Boardis to undertake a further refinement of our existing studies in support of policy development for the Local Development Framework and to achieve a business plan approach to the delivery and implementation of infrastructure.
2009 saw the completion of three major transport infrastructure projects in Aylesbury. Aylesbury’s Public Transport Hub, Bourg Walk bridge including the newly landscaped Station Boulevard and signalized crossing of Friarage Road and Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station.
Another example of infrastructure which has benefited the residents and commuters in Aylesbury Vale was the Buckinghamshire County Council opening of the Stoke Hammond and Linslade Western Bypass which has enabled a faster journey time for commuters to and from Milton Keynes while protecting the rural villages from increased pollution and noise.
In the future there are plans for an Aylesbury spur railway line to connect Aylesbury to the Oxford to Milton Keynes proposed new rail link, this offering further travel choice for commuters and new residents.
