Transport

TransportThe major development areas relating to housing and business which are scheduled to emerge within the Vale present an opportunity to build a new comprehensive transportation system that will be interlinked and thus add to the sustainability of communities.

An integrated transport system, that will serve the town and surrounding rural areas, is essential for two reasons. First, it will enable residents of the Vale to travel to and from their places of work and to enjoy the amenities of Aylesbury town centre in clean, safe and comfortable conditions. Second, the scale of growth anticipated for the Vale will mean it will play an increasingly important role in the region so that transport links north, south, east and west will become a vital factor in maintaining the economic significance of the area.

Three important schemes will be put in place to improve the town’s road and rail network.

Aylesbury public transport hub:
to improve public transport and increase use of the town centre.
Parkway station and re-opening of the line:
to provide an additional station, bus interchange, and extend Chiltern Railway passenger services to serve the new Berryfields development.
Southcourt pedestrian/cyclist bridge:
to replace the existing bridge linking Southcourt and Aylesbury College with the town centre.

The Bus Hub station will be externally refurbished and provide an upgrade in passenger facilities that will include an enlarged waiting area, better lighting and improved pedestrian routes. Included in the plans are crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists around the Hub.
