Fitness and Health issues in general are vitally important areas of concern for the UK population at large. Aylesbury Vale District Council works closely with the Vale of Aylesbury Primary Care Trust to tackle the causes of ill health, including personal, social, economic and environmental factors.
Stoke Mandeville is a flagship hospital with a national and international reputation for excellence in its pioneering work for spinal injuries. This is a specialist hospital sited on the edge of the town. Within Aylesbury itself, the Vale of Aylesbury PCT has a strong commitment to the community with the proclaimed purpose to develop the best possible primary and community care for the local population.
The backbone to any sustainable community development is the inclusion of a viable health structure that will have sufficient funding and organisational capabilities to serve a growing population. There is a strategy plan in place that will meet the needs of new communities for a comprehensive system that will give access to top quality care and top class medical personnel.
In addition to general and specialist medical care, there are a number of fitness centres in the region, one example being the Aqua Vale Swimming and Fitness Centre which is run on behalf of Aylesbury Vale District Council by SERCO. This £9.8 million lottery funded facility offers a range of activities including a high-tech gym, a sauna and a dance studio.
