Linked very closely to the overall redevelopment and enhancement of Aylesbury’s urban centre, the concept for an Aylesbury Public Transport Hub is been driven forward through the cooperation of AVDC and Bucks CC supported by the government’s Community Infrastructure Fund.
This transport hub involves a comprehensive reorganisation and restructuring of central area bus routes, new strategically located stops and ‘Super Stops’. All of this further supported by new bus lanes and ‘real time’ passenger information systems.
The essence of the scheme known as Aylesbury Hub is to create a traffic free zone for the Market Square supported by a diverse set of measures and initiatives to encourage residents, workers and visitors alike to make better use of public transport, cycling opportunities and pedestrian routes.
With over £14m of Community Infrastructure Funding in place the scheme will involve and integrate a number of key elements:
Another closely linked initiative is the planned new Southcourt Bridge opening up pedestrian/cycle access from the south of the town and the railway station.
Plans are also being considered to provide better Taxi access points and Disabled Parking around the town centre.
