National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) – Quick Wins Workshop

NISP is a new initiative part funded by DEFRA/DTI that links industries from different sectors to create sustainable commercial opportunities. It is the first industrial symbiosis initiative in the world to be launched on a national scale.

To further the aims and objectives of NISP in your region, we were delighted to have mounted a free NISP ‘Quick Wins’ workshop on 2nd March 2006 at the Aylesbury Civic Centre in Aylesbury, Bucks.

The focus for the day was to bring businesses from different sectors together to explore opportunities for being more resource efficient. The process can be likened to speed dating in that we help you meet other companies through a networking venue. At the end of the day we aimed to have mapped out a number of cases where companies could work together generating positive economic, environmental and social outcomes.

For example, as a result of working with NISP, Pointons in Staffordshire now divert 70,000 tonnes of animal by-product to Castle Cement annually, providing an alternative fuel source, creating new jobs, saving others and reducing disposal and raw fuel costs.

We hope to facilitate more business success stories like this, so if you think your company could benefit - please contact us. If you weren’t able make this particular Quick Wins Workshop, don’t worry! We are planning others across the South East of England for the new financial year.
