Planning Policy

The overall plan for the future growth of Aylesbury & Aylesbury Vale has been developed through consultation, partnership working and the creation of a Vision Framework – a set of guiding principles for the management the balanced and sustainable regeneration of Aylesbury Town and the more extensive Local Development Framework which covers all of Aylesbury Vale.

However, underpinning all of these elements and vital to integrated growth is the requirement to ensure compliance with Central Government, Regional and local planning policies and procedures, themselves currently subject to modification and change.

Planning Portal - the government's online service for planning outlines the role and responsibilities for LDV (local delivery vehicles) such as AVA.

Planning Policy Statements (PPS) are prepared by the government after public consultation to explain statutory provisions and provide
guidance to local authorities and others on planning policy and the operation of the planning system.

Regional Spatial Strategies (RSS’s) aim to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development. The RSS for the South East is known as The South East Plan and provides a broad development strategy for the region over a fifteen to twenty year span up to 2026.

The South East Plan and the Milton Keynes South Midland Sub Regional
Spatial Strategy
guide the preparation of the Local Development Framework, which sets out local planning policy, and which must take the content of the two strategic documents into account. The guidance may also be relevant to decisions on individual planning applications and appeals.

Together, these strategic documents define Aylesbury Vale as a growth area, with a significant projected increase in population, over the next twenty or so years.

The Aylesbury Vale (LDF) will eventually replace the Aylesbury Vale District Local Plan, adopted in 2004 and which guides development to 2011. The LDF will comprise a 'folder' of linked documents, called Local Development Documents (LDDs) which can be regularly updated. The LDF will cover the period to 2026.
