34.2% of the workforce in Aylesbury Vale have an NVQ level of 4 or above, a standard that compares with 25% across the UK as a whole. However, we recognise that the planned growth in population, the change in employment patterns and the extension to the retirement legislation requires pro-active targeting of educational and skill acquisition to facilitate the workforce of tomorrow.
Partnership working between Bucks Economic and Learning Partnership BELP & Aylesbury Vale District Council AVDC and the four educational establishments of the area – Aylesbury College, Buckinghamshire New University, University of Buckingham (please insert a link to www.buckingham.ac.uk) and the University Centre for Aylesbury Vale is happening with the goal of delivering the workforce of tomorrow for existing and incoming businesses to Aylesbury and The Vale.
Our skilled workforce reflects our successful sectors of industry and commerce; high grade manufacturing work which supports the Silverstone / automotive sector, financial services, creative media, printing and publishing companies, food processing and a range of ICT based companies.
Future skills development is also focusing on Aylesbury Vale’s successful record of entrepreneurship and to complement this activity AVDC is in discussion with the (Peter Jones) National Enterprise Academy team to bring this pilot initiative to Aylesbury. Together these initiative will support the generation of new ‘start up’ enterprises which is already a success story as evidenced by the high level of VAT registered businesses in Aylesbury and The Vale when compared to the south east as a whole.
These enterprises are choosing to work in refurbished farm buildings, in small village locations or within the successful business parks such as those in Buckingham, Haddenham or Westcott. The attraction? The quality of life that Aylesbury Vale is renowned for.
