
The South East Plan states that the growth areas development plans are to focus on the delivery of employment and housing as part of the growth agenda. The aim in Aylesbury Vale is to deliver a new job for each house built in Aylesbury Vale. This is a total of approximately 21,500 jobs* (or houses).
Aylesbury Vale’s history of economic growth reflects a relatively well balanced economy and it is that stable growth which will have the potential to grow with the creation of new sustainable communities delivering new business parks, better access and an enlarged labour market. Together these activities enhance the opportunities for local businesses and also lead to an increase in the vitality of the local economy by attracting inward investment.
AVA’s employment programme team members represent the economic development and inward investment activities of Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC), Bucks Economic and Learning Partnership (BELP), The South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA), Invest MK and Aylesbury College who also represent The University Centre for Aylesbury Vale.
The team’s key task is employment creation activity. To facilitate this AVDC produce an employment trajectory to capture the current and future employment statistics within Aylesbury Vale over the 2009 to 2026 time period. The trajectory serve as a guidance to achieving the employment target which enables partners to review recent successes against known target.
The employment team is also working pro-actively to define which business sectors are growing in Aylesbury Vale and the range of businesses sectors to attract to relocate here. This information also informs and refines the employment trajectory.

*This figure does not take into account the 5,390 dwellings to be built in the north east of Aylesbury which borders onto the town of Milton Keynes. The sustainable solution to the provision of employment opportunities for these new residents is Milton Keynes and as such the inward investment activities there are planning how to deliver these extra employment opportunities as part of their growth plans.
