In July 2002 the government announced that it would address the issue of acute housing supply issues in and around the south east of England.

The 2003 Sustainable Communities Plan identified four areas, where the majority of this growth will take place.  Of these four areas, mksm is the most successful and largest area; comprising:

• Aylesbury Vale
• Bedford & Mid Bedfordshire
• Luton & South Bedfordshire
• Milton Keynes
• North Northamptonshire
• West Northamptonshire

Aylesbury Vale Advantage and the other Local Delivery Vehicles within the sub-region meet regularly with the mksm Directorate in a coordinated approach to deliver projects which have pan-regional benefits to all residents and which enhance the economic performance of the area.
